Round 1: Report with few surprises

The current league champions, South City United 1 edged out last years runner-up, West Coast Riders by just 1 point. That means WCR get a bonus and already have points on the table despite coming second at full-time. Powerhouse denied Cherubs a point holding them out for a two-nil victory. G-Force, freshly promoted from their Div2a victory in 2008, held the Hornby United 1sts to a 3-all draw on the Hornby home ground.

All eyes were on Division two with half the teams being replaced in a reshuffle this year. It was success for two of the newcomers with newly promoted Full Gospel Church dominating the relegated Faith Warriors with a 5 point lead. The Korean Catholic Church kept Christchurch North United at bay, denying them any goals for a 2-nil win. Div2b winners, Ox-E-Gen, saw the Shirley Strikers go down with a 4-3 defeat, thus giving the Strikers a bonus point on the table. Spreydon and Vatican Rovers have a game in hand so we’ll see what that brings.

In the 3rd division it was Hornby United 2nd’s day defeating the Navigators 4-nil. Every Nation Victory retained their dominant form over the Issachar Warriors. In the clash of the new teams, Sino United rolled Vatican City United for a 6-2 victory putting them at the top of the table on goals scored.
