And The Winners Are…

Bishopdale Rovers are the winners of the first division and CIFL Champions for 2013! Having played the part of the bridesmaid as runner-up for the last 2 years, the Rovers were able to edge out Ilam Cherubs by one point to take home the trophy!

Ox-E-Gen performed a similar feat in division 2 and held Northcity Rangara to a 1-all draw in the final round, thus winning back the 2nd division trophy for the first time in 3 years.

The Vatican City Rovers have finally taken the division 3 title after more than a decade and defeats and near misses. To top it, they are the only team to finish with a clean sheet – unbeaten for all 10 games! This also secures them the Highest Points Trophy!

They started the season in a strong position with a clean sheet for their first 4 games. Their only defeats were to 1st division runner-up, Reformed Rovers and Nampo I.U. The victory will be welcomed after Powerhouse finished a close 2nd place in 2011.

Hope Presbyterian are the winners of the Sportsmanship Award for the third year running. This prestige is based on Christian Points awarded by other teams throughout the year and is recognition that both teams played in a manner that reflects the Spirit the league was founded on.

The Golden Boot award for most goals scored is a shared victory going to Vatican City Rovers and The A Team. Both division 3 teams finished 48 goals in the back of the net.

Lastly the Old Boot (formerly known as the Endurance Award) goes to the Backyard Bandits who finish with a winless season for the 2nd year. It should be noted, the Bandits were only a couple of points off winning the Sportsmanship award as well.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who participated in the competition this season. We’ll see most of you next week at the CIFL Sevens and prize-giving. Keep your eye on the website for more updates soon.
