Mid-season round-up

Welcome to the half-way point of the 2010 season. There’ll be a few tired faces on the pitch over the next few weeks as the World Cup draws keen fans from their slumber to watch the games live from South Africa. I admit – my TV was nearly sprayed with weetbix watching England struggle against USA this morning…

We’re now 5 rounds in and the divisions are shaping up to show us the likely candidates to take home a trophy in 2½ months. In the 1sts we’ve got the Cherubs holding onto their lead. But they’ll need to hang tight as only a win stands between them and the current league champions, South City United 1sts. G-Force also stand strong alongside SCU seperated only by goal difference.

Division 2 meanwhile has a wide spread of points. New comers, One Way Jesus FC, are undefeated at the top and look safe, even with a game in hand. At the other end of the spectrum The Faith Warriors struggle to find their form and put points on the table. Maybe they’ll follow the pattern they set last season and finish with 5 solid wins? Hornby, KCC, Sino, Spreydon and Nessi are all josling for space in between with only a few points seperating them all.

Navs United continue to hold onto their lead in division 3 but South City United 2nds are closing the gap. The Warriors, Strikers, Chch North and Hornby 2nd are also only a win away from the top two positions. Chasing up the rear, Vatican City Rovers and La Vida Life Force scramble for points.

Due to poor ground conditions, it’s likely we won’t have access to Riccarton High School this season. Mainland Football are at capacity for Saturday mornings as well. So we’ll be trying to fill in fields where we can. From next year we will be working closer with Mainland Football for field availability. To ease congestion our kick-off times will be moved to 12:30pm. There’ll be more news on our plans for 2011 soon.
