The Christchurch Interchurch Football League is an opportunity for men and women of different Christian backgrounds to come together in fellowship and sport. The league was formed in 1984 to allow Christian soccer players to engage in an organised competition without having to sacrifice their Sunday church commitments. The league currently consists of more than 20 teams competing at various levels from social to skilled.

To participate in the CIFL, teams must be affiliated with a Christian church or organisation. Players are comprised of members of a church/organisation or those who have a close connection. Several churches can also come together to form a team. There are opportunities to invite non-Christian players into a team but this should not be abused. Players must be aged 14 and up and men and women are encouraged to participate at all levels. All players are to abide by the Christian spirit that the league represents.

Team fees are $350 per team. This fee covers the admin costs, prizes and Mainland Football and NZ Football levies. Each season lasts 10 rounds which are played on a bi-weekly basis (where the weather permits). The year concludes with a seven-a-side tournament and trophy and prize presentations.
